ARTICLE SNIPPET -

Executive Summary

Affordance is one of fourteen website design guidelines identified by the Mequoda Group as being essential to sound, effective website design. We identified these website design guidelines by reviewing hundreds of websites and interviewing dozens of website publishers.

Proper affordance means that something that is linked should look like it is—and that which is not linked should have no underlining or color-coding. Good affordance means that you aren't making the user mouse-over the page looking for links. A website publisher who also understands how different age groups expect a website to behave will score well in affordance.

This chapter is part of a handbook titled Membership Website Publishing.
